Next up in the Sinchi & Friends series are Low Heights who are part of the burgeoning Lithuanian electronic scene and an exciting wave of artists who are making a name for themselves both in and out the country. In their own words ‘ We always like to be eclectic and try to match up the with sound we feel is right for the party or mixtape. This mixtape we’ve made for Sinchi Collective is one of the slowest ones we ever made. We tried to mix up some African, tribal and Arabic sounds into one beautiful journey’ . Check it out and find out more about them via the interview below.
ABOUT
1) Introduce yourself?
Low Heights is DJ duo (Youwin x Phad) from Vilnius, Lithuania. We run a project called the same name Low Heights, which is a mix series from other DJs. We also make parties in Vilnius since 2014 with local and foreign artists.
2) What have been your highlights from the last 12 months?
DJing in our favourite festival in Lithuania called ‘Ant Bangos’ on the beach, which is located in magical place Nida, Lithuania. The whole summer was spent playing in the seaside of Lithuania and other places in Vilnius. Best summer of life so far for both of us.
3) What do you have lined up for the coming year?
We’re now fully focused now on our party in Vilnius on Valentine’s, 14th of February with a guest from Tel Aviv in Kino Todo, there will also be a Roe Deers live performance and local DJ duo Kandy Killers. We’ve also got a few ideas for parties later this year and we will of course keep running mixtape releases from guest artists.
MUSIC
4) Which track in the mix is your favourite right now?
It’s definitely ‘Bo Ni Ke’ by Inigo Vontier . We both agreed this one is going to be the key track in the mix.
5) What is your favourite track of the last 12 months?
This track remains with us from summer. Warm wind , sun, sand on the beach and sea of course. We see all of this when we listen to the track. Try to close your eyes and imagine that too.
6) What is the last record you bought?
These two. We love digging on Bandcamp. You can find so many good music there you’ve never heard. A couple of examples below…
7) Whats your number 1 go to track of all time?
‘Gina Fly To Space’ by Legowelt will always remind us of the beginning of Low Heights parties.
8) Who or what are your biggest musical influences?
It’s constantly changing, but we can surely mention Tornado Wallace, Lipelis, Lauer, Legowelt, Fabrizio Mammarella, Perdu and many many more…
9) Tell us about 3 DJ’s / Producer’s we may not know but should be looking out for?
We would like to promote our local scene. We’re sure these artists will be even bigger in the near future – Roe Deers, Zakmina, Mario Moretti, Pletnev.
10) What is your favourite Venue or Festival to play at and why?
As we’ve mentioned previously, our number one is the festival ‘Ant Bangos’ which is happening on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The atmosphere is magic! This festival is run by Opium club in Vilnius, which we can almost call our home. We love artists who come there to play, we love the attitude this club has and the level of quality in every single detail when they make a party. Also in the Kaunas city club scene, there is Lizdas club which is worth mentioning, it’s super crazy and friendly community.
PERSONAL
11) Do you have a ritual before you start playing or straight after?
Well, it’s always nice to come a bit earlier so see how things are going on, so you can start feeling the vibe of the crowd.
12) What is your favourite bit of kit?
Everything starts with a strong and massive bassline. Arpeggios are quite our thing, also drums.
13) What is your favourite film score?
We highly recommend to watch ‘The Holy Mountain’ which was directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky in 1973.
14) What is your dream destination?
Japan and USA.
15) What makes you smile?
Happy faces and people dancing on the dance-floor.
